It's about money. Ukraine:

The yank taxpayer funds a war and profit for yank arms companies. Ukraine pays its resources. Private companies with the right investors exploit them. It doesn't matter if the value of those resources is overstated, the yank taxpayer funded it. If Russia doesn't play along, the yank taxpayer funds mercenaries from the Islamic world to fight until something part of the Russian war effort runs out.
