I read the article from the original link and pretty sure it was a different
one but says basically the same stuff.

Nobody but you can see your captcha, especially not the logged in ones
Also Google make them. So, because Google.

Shrug, the unfortunate thing is without it everything gets full of spam.
Hell, even with it everything gets full of spam. The amount of forum and image
comments that the back end picks up as spam content is insane. I delete it
periodically, probably 200 posts a day. Without captcha it'd just be unusable
garbage. Like the posts are now, but at least they're by users.
And blocking anon/not logged in wouldn't help because they make a couple of
dozen accounts a day, too.
This is the past 2 hours:

Wow, imagine the 'bot-count at ex-twitter or something like that.
I remember there were lots of spider-bots when the old world map thingy worked
on plu613.com but never imagined so may 'bots would be trying the front door
like that. The peter puller bot is cool, glad that one evolved enough to gain a
login, very intelligent and seems to be the type of 'bot I could have a beer
with. The others are just plain shite and I am glad you have provided the tools
to cut that out.
